Fortrose & Rosemarkie: A Highland Gem

Perched on the Chanonry Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club stands as a testament to the raw, rugged beauty of links golf. With an impressive community rating of 4.88, it remains one of the most cherished secrets in the north of Scotland.

History and Design: Founded in 1793, this is the 15th oldest golf club in the world. While the original layout has evolved, the current course was significantly redesigned by the legendary James Braid in 1932. Braid’s influence is evident in the clever routing that utilizes the narrow, undulating Chanonry Point to create a high-stakes test of precision.

Course Character: This is pure links golf. Surrounded by the waters of the Moray Firth, players often find themselves sharing the coastline with the resident bottlenose dolphins—a sight unique to this corner of the globe. The course measures approximately 6,085 yards from the medal tees, proving that length is secondary to strategy when the Highland winds begin to howl off the North Sea.

Facilities: The club provides a quintessential Scottish clubhouse experience, offering warm hospitality, local malts, and views that stretch across the water toward Fort George. It is a place where tradition is felt in every bunker and every narrow fairway.

Tactical Insight

Don't be fooled by the yardage. The firm, fast greens and unpredictable coastal gales make club selection on the approach the most critical decision of your round.
